As of April 29 2008, Air China will operate out of the new Terminal 2 of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Pudong T2). Air China will occupy Pudong T2 with other Star Alliance members which will provide customers with easy and convenient services. Pudong T2 has a main hall, a hallway and a lounge. It encompasses a total construction area of 485,000 square meters, which is nearly 2 times larger than Pudong T1 and over 3 times larger than the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport terminal. Pudong T2 consists of three sections: 1) the Departure Ticketing Lobby/International Departure Center, 2) the International Arrival Center and 3) the Domestic Departure/Arrival/Transit Center. The international and domestic counters of Air China are located at Island H and Island K, respectively. Compared with Pudong T1, the distance between the international and domestic counters is greatly shortened which allows the passengers quick connecting times. Passengers of Air China have many transportation options with Pudong T2. The integrated transport hub between the two terminals provides trains, magnetic levitation trains, airport buses, taxis, coaches and other modes of transportion. There is also a public parking lot that holds nearly 6000 vehicles. There are designated roads between T1 and T2 for passenger transfers on free shuttle buses. The free shuttle buses operate every 10 minutes from 6:00 to 21:00. Pudong T2 is the first domestic airport using a unique mixed-flow design. Domestic departure and arrival passengers share the same level which allows passengers to complete international transit procedures without leaving the controlled zone. It is estimated that the average transit time for domestic to domestic flights and international to international flights is about 45 minutes. The average transit time for international to domestic flights and domestic to international flights is about 60 minutes. As one of the major airlines to operate in Pudong T2, Air China will introduce a new self-service duty system and a new baggage sorting system. By using the self-service duty machine, passengers can select seats and print boarding passes. Air China will also have designated desks for information, ticketing and special passenger services. VIP passengers will continue to enjoy a priority service. Air China is excited to move into Pudong T2 so it can continue to provide passengers with excellent services. |
